No matter what religion you ascribe to, you will notice, even in the so-called Monotheistic traditions, that the gods or helpers of God are distributed in an order of responsibilities. The pagan pantheons or angelic hierarchies serve much like a divine government, giving some new meaning to the idea of on earth as it is in heaven.
One of the most recurring roles in the divine hierarchy is occupied by the sun. And there is no better starting point than the single object that distributes its light through all ranks of life.
